Jeff Porcaro Bio

Jeff Porcaro was born on April 1st 1954, in Hartford, Connecitcut. He was the son of L.A.’s famous session percussionist, Joe Porcaro and he played the drums for 38 years, until his death in August of 1992. Jeff’s drumming career started around the age of seven. As his father taught Jeff the drums

he moved to further his studies with Bob Zimmitti and Rich Lapore. Jeff’s unique drumming abilities were widely noticed by his versatility between every style of drumming. At the age of seventeen, Jeff got his first professional job playing in Sonny and Cher’s band. After which, Jeff found connections to play for a few Steely Dan’s albums.

 

Throughout Jeff’s popular career as a pro drummer, he preformed with musicians such as the Michael Jackson, Dire Straits, Bee Gees, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and even The Boss him self, Bruce Springsteen. Jeff’s most memorable, unique drum style would be his shuffle pattern. In the song, “Rosanna” by Toto, he used a shuffle pattern which brought him into the spot light and helped make Toto a well known band of their time!
